Welcome to SOMAC

SOMAC, Southern Madison County Volunteer Ambulance Corps, is a volunteer, not-for-profit organization formed in June 1986 after the Community, Village, and Town of Hamilton were left without ambulance service.

SOMAC today has two fully equipped Braun Chief ambulances to serve the community. One (#513) is dedicated to transfers, mostly from Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton to other regional hospitals and care facilities. The other (#512) is available for emergencies.

SOMAC Training

Each class is a mixture of lectures and Critical Thinking scenario’s. Topics covered include: assessment medical, trauma and pediatric, new shock management, Respiratory & cardiac emergencies, special needs children, altered mental status and endocrine emergencies.

Volunteer Opportunities:

SOMAC needs to enlarge its group of trained ambulance drivers. A person needs to be over the age of 21 with a valid NYS drivers license to drive an ambulance. Training is done by SOMAC. Feel free to call or drop in to talk about becoming a driver.
